Remo - An aspiring actor dresses up as a female nurse to bag a role in a film, and more importantly, woo the love of his life The story revolves around SK (Sivakarthikeyan), who wants to become an acto - He gets an opportunity to act, the role demands that he dresses up as a female nurse - he also needs to play a romantic, and that’s a problem for SK, as he gets nervous around girls and that is when Kavya (Keerthy Suresh) walks into his life, however, the girl is engaged. An opportunity presents itself when he meets Kavya dressed as a nurse and SK becomes Remo! - The real surprise in Remo is the romantic moments - the scene where SK wishes Kavya on her birthday or when the two share an intimate moment inside a bus… SK’s act comes across more as a happy-go-lucky guy trying his best to woo the girl he is attracted to. He even justifies it saying that one who doesn’t try to win over the girl isn’t qualified to fall in love - use of a kid who gets attached to Remo also softens the stalking angle. But there is a misogynist streak as well that rears its head now and then, and is used just to get some applause – Music by Anirudh Ravichander and the songs are all Hit.

Irumugan - 5.1

Iru Mugan is a fast-paced action thriller that will satisfy fans of popcorn movies and those seeking entertainment alike. The film basically tries to portray the clash between a ruthless RAW agent Akilan (Vikram) and a deadly-effeminate drug lord Love (Vikram). Four years back, Akilan had destructed the underworld drug mafia of Love and finished him off, paying a huge price of losing his techie wife Meera (Nayanthara). Cut to the present, Love who is still alive, gains back momentum and uses a drug called Speed in the form of an inhaler through which one’s energy gets multiplied that they almost become strong and uncontrollable for five minutes!. Love begins his first attack at the Indian embassy in Malaysia and the intelligence team seeks the help of Akilan who is on a sabbatical to take control of the situation. As Akilan has an unsettled business with Love, he accepts to take up the mission and flies to Malaysia with his fellow RAW agent Ayushi (Nithya Menon). Iru Mugan is truly a film on par with international standards, especially RD Rajasekar's crystal clear cinematography and Harris Jayaraj's adrenaline rushing background score. All the songs are hummable especially the Halena and Maya songs.

And then, this breeze turns into a twister, wreaking havoc on everything in its path — not just the film’s characters and their lives, but the film itself! The film begins with an acknowledgment that it is inspired from a moment in The Godfather — the moment when Michael Corleone runs into Captain McCluskey — and we get a nod to this moment in a scene where a cop in the payroll of a politician, slaps the hero, undermining him and kindling within him something that he had only felt as a flicker — a fiery spirit. This film was directed and produced by Gautham Menon, released on 11.11.2016. Music was composed by A.R.Rahman.

Thodari - 5.1

A pantry boy falls in love with the touch-up girl of an actress travelling on his train, but an incident turns the train into an unstoppable force posing a threat to the passengers, and the romance - motley bunch of characters are travelling on the train with the pantry team headed by Chandrakanth (Thambi Ramaiah) of which Poochiyappan (Dhanush) is a part. Poochi's love interest Saroja (Keerthy Suresh) is the touch-up girl of an actress who is also on the train - A central minister (Radha Ravi) is also among the passengers - His NSG commando (Harish Uthaman) has temper issues, and Poochi and Saroja become his target - The pacing in these portions is quite slow — more passenger train than superfast express — but the comedy sequences featuring Dhanush and Thambi Ramaiah are amusing – the story continues whether Poochi and Saroja are joined together in unstoppable Train. This film was directed by Prabhu Salamon, produced by .T.G.Thiyagarajan and released on 22.09.2016. Music was composed by D.Imman.

Rekka - 5.1

Rekka is a cocktail of stalking, eloping, action scenes and some dreadful songs that invariably calls for a smoke break. Rekka is filled with goons and rowdies going around in Tata Sumos - A young man haunted by his actions in the past gets caught in the rivalry between two gangsters - Rekka, a half thought-out action film that seems to have been made rather hastily - its first half an hour or so, until Siva agrees to kidnap Bharathi to save his sister’s wedding - in the second half, we expect the flashback showing what haunts Siva to resonate with us, but even that disappoints, by being too lengthy. Rekka, written and directed by Rathina Shiva. The film features Vijay Sethupathi and Lakshmi Menon in the lead roles, while Sathish, K.S.Ravikumar play supporting roles. The film is being produced by B. Ganesh. Featuring music composed by D.Imman.

Wagah - 5.1

The film Wagah portrays a cross-border (India-Pakistan border) romance steeped in cinematic patriotic fervor - Vasu (Vikram) is a reluctant soldier, who joins the army only to escape his father, who wants him to run the family grocery store. He ends up as a border security force jawan posted at the India-Pakistan border – There he falls in love with Khamun (Ranya Rao) - The Pakistanis on the Indian side of the border rush back to their country due to section 144 is imposed, then only Vasu realises that Khamun belongs to Pakistan.

Then story moves to across the border, where Razzak Ali Khan (Shaji Choudhary), introduced as fanatical officer of the Pakistan army, the man behind the killings of the Indian soldiers.

In film, lot of melodrama, action, romance and patriotic sentiments before Vasu can win the day - is slow-paced, and the plot is rather tame.

Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran - 5.1

This film revolves around a bunch of silly and greedy politicians trying to outdo each other to win a ministerial post.

Jacket Janakiraman (Robo Shankar) is an MLA, who is the favorite of a senior, ailing minister. All the other members of the party hate him as Janaki considers himself the minister's natural successor - Just before his death, the minister reveals the whereabouts of a Rs 500 crores treasure to Janaki, asking him to use his ill-gotten gains for the benefit of society so that the minister's many sins are washed away - Unfortunately, Janaki is involved in a bad car accident and the trauma to his head causes him to regress back to his childhood - Protagonist, Murugan (Vishnu), Janaki’s right hand man and a problem solver falls in love with Archana (Nikki Galrani), an aspiring police officer - To get her a police posting, Archana’s father entrusts Rs 10 lakhs to Murugan, who gives it to the minister just before his accident. But with Janaki behaving like a 10-year-old, reciting rhymes and eating lollipops, Murugan becomes the suspect.

The second half of the film is all about the silly hunt for the Rs 500 crore treasure, and Murugan’s attempt to get back the Rs 10 lakhs for his lover.

At 2 hours and 20 minutes, the film seems painfully long and tedious. There are some brief moments of fun, but the humour seems mostly forced and the narrative scarcely moves forward.

Kabali - 5.1

This film revolves around the plight of Malaysian Indians, who have been toiling for a pittance at menial jobs in their country for generations. They revolt under the leadership of Kabaleeshwaran (Rajinikanth), also a lowly worker. In this movie story is narrated in a brief flashback and the film opens with Kabali being released from jail - love between Kabali and Kumudavalli (Radhika Apte) - Kumudha is killed and Kabali gets jailed for 25 years

Music composer Santhosh Narayanan proves he is a class apart with his powerful background score, and the Nerupa Da number. The haunting Maya Nadhi, picturised on an aging couple, also touches your heart.

Kabali is definitely not your regular Rajini film and is most likely to disappoint his fans. The film is also not as gripping as Ranjith’s critically acclaimed Madras.
